Aditya Khan’s Corner of the Internet ;)

Hey all! I’m Aditya Khan, a Ph.D. student in Statistics at Columbia University. Previously, I graduated with a Hons. BSc from the University of Toronto (data science, statistics, computer science).

People always ask: “what are your research interests?” I find this to be a difficult question, given that I am still in my first year of my doctoral program. What knowledge of statistics do you really have at that point? But tentatively, I’d say I’m fairly interested in nonparametric methods for uncertainty quantification.

I do additional research for fun, in NLP and ML as well. I’ve also got some work here and there in some other fields as well (e.g. a paper in mathematical biology and CS education each). Ultimately, this is a result of exploring around a lot in my undergrad, and seeing what would catch my eye. I’ve since started to specialise away from this, and into statistics.

A note on my name, since I also often get this question. I am Bangladeshi, so my name is আদিত্য খান, and hence my first name is pronounced “A-dit-to” with a soft “d” and “t”. This is my preferred pronunciation. But since most people are more familiar with the Hindi pronunciation of my name, I will usually just tell them to pronounce it as “Aa-dit-ya”. Feel free to call me either, but most people know me by the latter.
